Application

One of the key scientific objectives of SHEAR is to get the right information to the right people in the right ways. Our projects are working to deliver demand-led, people-centred science and solutions with demonstrated application in the real world.

The application side of SHEAR is mainly divided into two sections, which address key issues in applying innovative science and solutions to resilience and disasters.

Open data tools: Challenge Fund

The Challenge Fund connects the technological knowledge of the scientific community with the contextual knowledge of at-risk communities

The Challenge Fund aims to bring together the technological, innovative knowledge of the scientific community with the contextual knowledge of at-risk communities on the ground in order to better identify changing climate and disaster risk, and enable more effective decision making to build resilience.

Data

Insurance has a role to play in mitigating economic losses caused by natural disasters

The application and use of existing data in humanitarian emergencies is central to SHEAR's goals. The 'Data' stream of the SHEAR application work focuses on two areas: big data for reilience, and the role of insurance in disasters.
